What is the Louis Capano Foundation
For Louis Capano Jr. and Louis Capano III, the decision to form the Louis Capano Foundation was an easy one. With strong Delaware roots and ties, the father-son duo knew what matters most in life: helping those in need. And so in 2006, the pair formed the Louis Capano Foundation with the goal of helping families and children throughout Delaware and beyond.
To this day, the foundation contributes to family-oriented charities on a weekly basis. Since its inception, the Louis Capano Foundation has donated in excess of $6 million — in the form of donations, partnerships, sponsorships and grants — to over 100 local charities. The Ministry of Caring, the Mary Campbell Center, and the WRK Group are just a few notable organizations on the long list of non-profits the Louis Capano Foundation has supported over the years.
Through the Louis Capano Foundation, the third generation of the Capano family continues to give back to the state of Delaware — not only for current communities, but for future generations to come as well.
How The Louis Capano Foundation Champions Local Causes
Since its inception, the foundation’s mission has been to better the lives of families who are dealing with sickness and poverty. The funds raised by the foundation help local organizations build new facilities, improve access to medical services, and develop and launch educational programming.
In 2007, the foundation launched its first annual golf outing that would go on to raise over a million dollars, all of which has funneled to numerous local charities, including Exceptional Care for Children, Delaware’s first and only residential pediatric skilled nursing facility, and Best Buddies Delaware, an organization geared toward supporting individuals with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities in Delaware.
Each year, the Louis Capano Foundation gathers on the golf course with trusted vendors and friends to build awareness and raise money for its partners and their causes. The amount the event raises, Louis Capano Jr. and Louis Capano III personally match, doubling the financial impact.
Today, the Louis Capano Foundation has formed an alliance with The WRK Group — a collective of three nonprofits designed to revitalize the Riverside community of Wilmington, DE by eliminating barriers of structural racism and empowering teenagers to climb out of poverty. Louis Capano III is dedicated to providing resources to the WRK Group to meet the nonprofit’s goals — from creating programs to help teens pursue their entrepreneurial dreams to financing public housing redevelopment.
The Impact of the Louis Capano Foundation on Delaware Families
There’s no shortage of stories showcasing the impact the foundation has had on families in Delaware, particularly among those with children who are sick or in need of medical services.
One such example is Exceptional Care For Children, a nonprofit that provides assisted living services to children with serious illnesses. By providing funding to the ECFC, the Louis Capano Foundation helped the organization build a new wing in their facilities to treat older teenagers that the organization previously didn’t have the resources to serve. Today, the organization is able to welcome these adolescents and ensure they receive the care they need.
The foundation has continued to cherish the Capano’s decades-long relationship with the Mary Campbell Center, an organization that provides a range of services and home-like care for people with disabilities. In 2019, the foundation made a signification donation that helped expand the center’s services and upgrade its facilities. That year, Louis Capano Jr. received an award from the organization’s co-founder, Joseph J. Picciotti Jr., recognizing those who’ve shown a steadfast commitment to furthering the organization’s missions.
The Louis Capano Foundation has granted numerous wishes of critically-ill children by supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The experiences made possible through the Make-A-Wish Foundation build lasting memories among patients and their families — as well as provide children the strength and hope to overcome their illnesses. The Louis Capano Foundation is honored to be a part of their fight.
The Louis Capano Foundation is always eager to hear from new charities committed to improving Delaware. Our team is honored to be part of the hard work it requires to help children not only survive, but thrive, in the place they call home.
